Top Ten Tuesday - My Top Ten Favourite Places To Visit In Kent

Yes it's Tuesday and yes it's another top ten list!
Today I am sharing my Top Ten Favourite Places in Kent, Kent is my home county and I am very fond of certain places.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Rochester

Rochester is a delightful part of Kent, it has an old fashioned high-street, a castle and a cathedral. It is home to most of the spring and summer festivals I like to attend, The Sweeps festival is one of my favourites. I recommend that you take a few days to enjoy Rochester leisurely, the castle and cathedral are always great places to visit. The Guildhall Museums are great and they are free to visit so what's not to like.

2) The Shell Grotto - Margate

My partner took me here once when we went on a camping holiday. This place is incredible and it is very recommended that you visit.

3) Upnor Castle - Upnor

I spent many happy summers in Upnor, in the castle grounds and in the castle itself. Upnor is a lovely little area of Kent that hides itself away from the towns that surround it so well that you feel as if you are in the middle of the countryside.

4) Chatham Dockyard - Chatham

Back in the day the docks were quite a huge part of Medway life, the house I currently live in was most probably built to house the dock workers. I have visited the docks many times in my life and I will always go back. The Chatham Dockyard is also used in some quite big films and some TV that you may well be familiar with.
For Example: Call The Midwife, The Crown, Victor Frankenstein, Man from UNCLE, Mr Holms, Les Miserables, Sherlock Holms: Game of Shadows and Sherlock Holms.

5) Capstone Park - Chatham

Capstone park is one of my favourite country parks in Kent, it has a lake, various different walks, a café and a playground. The main reason for coming here is because the lake is home to many breads ducks and various other water birds, in the spring you can sometimes to ducklings.

6) Shorne Country Park - Gravesend

Shorne Country Park is the main place we used to walk as a child. We spent most of our time getting lost and then finding our way out again.

7) High Rocks - Tunbridge Wells

I have family out this way and have visited the rocks on several occasions, they are a great sight. I have also been to a wedding in the High Rocks Restaurant and venue.

8) Leeds Castle and Gardens - Near Maidstone

My partner and I have come here a lot during the summer, the gardens are spectacular, there is maze to get lost in (every time), the castle itself and the birds that live in the gardens. We spend a lot of time just hanging out in the gardens, they are great for a picnic.

9) Canterbury

Canterbury is a beautiful historic town much like Rochester, it has a wonderful high street to get lost in. There is also a cathedral, ruined castle but it's still charming and many other places to visit. If you are really into weird history check out the witch ducking chair.

10) Faversham

I visit Faversham yearly for their annual Hop Festival which they usually hold in September. The high street is absolutely bustling with festivities from music, to street performers, market stalls and children's entertainment. The hop festival is fun for everyone and despite it being a festival to do with drinking it's still very civilised. The town is usually decorated from head to toe in hops, all shop windows have them in their displays, people wear hop crowns on their heads and even street signs get the hop treatment.
